Default [Resolved] embedded video problem

hi all

im having a problem with playing embedded videos on the internet using WMP, i recently reformatted and now i have the problem, basically it says connecting to media and then just says ready, i click play and it says connecting to media and it shows ready again.

i have tried removing media player (through remove windows components) and reinstalling it, i have k-lite codec pack installed so it isnt a missing codec, still no joy, and it isnt that specific website as it does the same with others (and they work on my friends PC)

i am using media player 10, in XP professional (SP2) and i use firefox (though i have tried in in IE and it does the same thing)

if anyone could offer me any help i would appriciate it.
cheers
tom.

Hi Tom,

Let's see if I understand you correctly.
You go to a URL.
You click on a video.
WMP opens, but does not play the video.
Is that correct?

Or, are your accessing the URL from within the WMP?

Please provide the URL your are visiting.
If you can, identify the video you are trying to play.
Include the extention of the video (example: .avi, mpg, wmv)

Heya Bauer,

That is definitely an odd problem cause that problem is usually related to missing codecs or broken links.

My first instinct would be to check the settings in each browser to see how it is set up to handle movie file types. Next I would maybe update to WMP11 and see if that sorts it out. I would try out a few different websites to make sure. If there is still no luck, I would then try going to a website that uses quicktime movie files and see if it will stream quicktime. That will at least show you if it is a problem specifically related to WMP.

Hope that helps you!

hi again

basically wabeard, its a video embedded in a new window, this is the link, its a 24 inside video, and i believe the extension is WVX.

and wadd embedded quicktime videos work fine in both browsers, and i have tried other sites, no joy, i had media player 11 on my PC before i formatted, but the music ran really slow, so i dont really want to upgrade to that again.

The link you make is bad -

http://http//www.fox.com/video/index..._inside_603_hi

Note the http://http//

Try this link - FOX.com: Video From Your Favorite Shows

This is how you can do what you want to do.
Click on > FOX.com: Video From Your Favorite Shows
Right click over the video
Click on Properties
Highlight and copy the Location: URL ( To copy Press <CTL>c ) FOX
Open your WMP
Along the bottom of the WMP, Right click
Select File > Open URL...
Paste the URL into the window provided. ( To paste Press <CTL>P )
Click OK

Your video should now be playing.

If this doesn't work, post a reply with what the results were.

Good Luck...

but anyways i tried pasting into media player and still no joy, i get

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on the Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file is located a removable storage card, insert the storage card."

but it is definately there as ive seen it on a friends.
