Default Firefox - Unable to Connect ?

First off, thanks for your time. Now here is my current predicament...

Internet Explorer boots up and works just fine. Firefox, however, is unable to connect upon opening the application. Instead of seeing my home page, I get the following message:

Unable to Connect
Firefox cant establish a connection to the server at Google
- The site may be busy...
- Check your connection...
- Firewall / proxy check

I had used Firefox for quite some time on this computer with no problems at all, but I apprently messed it up somehow. I have taken the following steps to fix the problem, with no success.

- Restore all Firefox settings to default, reboot program.
- Uninstall and reinstall Firefox.
- Use system restore to roll back PC to an earlier date.

I have run out of ideas; I just dont get it. My internet connection is a DSL connection. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Hi INDYPB Welcome to PCHF

Can you try this for me please -

Go to tools in firefox
Options
Advanced
Network
Under Connections - settings
Select Direct Connection to the Internet
Click OK
Then Click OK again
Restart Firefox then see if it works

Then report back here,

Chris

Default settings

Hey Chris thanks for the quick reply.
That particular setting was already set to 'Direct Connection to Internet.'

Have you recently installed any new software?

Also try turning off your security software (just while testing this) and then seeing if Firefox works.
