Default [Answered] ISP and probably DACS :( i feel saaad

Umm i'll try to explain this the best i can so here goes:

My mate had been with AOL broadband for about half a year with no problems, Then he had to move house. Just before he moved house Broadband was activated in his area, He rung AOL once he had moved, and they said The connection would be there within two weeks. Two weeks went by and nothing happened, he Rung AOL and they said that there was a blockage on the line stopping it go through, and said that another 2 weeks was needed to clear the tag. Two weeks went again and Even though they promised to ring they didnt, so my mate rung them up only to find that it would be another 2 weeks again.
2 weeks went again without them ringing back and we decided to check with other ISP's to see if it was possible to get broadband elsewhere, Each and every time he attempts to get Broadband and enter's his phone number it sais the following:
You’ve already ordered broadband on this phone number.
If you want to change your Orange Broadband order, please call our customer support team.
If you’ve signed up with another broadband provider, you’ll need to cancel that order before you can register with [INSERT ISP NAME HERE].
Quite baffled at this i decided to ring BT Wholesale for him and they said that apparently there was a tag and it was AOL's again. We rung AOL back again and asked for our mac Adress, They said it was non existent seeing as broadband had never got through on that line, We asked them to cancel it anyway because it was getting ridicolous, and they did. Now when we try to get broadband we still get the same error message, we try to ring AOL to see if there's still a problem but his account has been cancelled.
I later rung BT wholesale to ask if there was a blockage on the line, apparently there was nothing that would stop broadband but he does have a DACS on his line.
AOL said that the entire cancellation would be done a week today when we rung a week ago. (what is it with them and 2 weeks?!)
What i want to know is that is there a chance the DACS is slowing down the cancellation, hence other ISP's thinking we still have ordered broadband?
He's also rung Orange broadband a couple of times, and they just say theres another order on this line.
Could you please suggest something we could do, so it no longer thinks were ordering broadband, Would it be easier to wait out the 2 weeks and then see what happens OR would you suggest trying to get the DACS removed? (we also rung to get that removed but BT merely said that it wasnt theyre responsobility)
What would you advise our next course of action is?
Thanks!

Hey Fli,

Your not alone alone mate, I absolutely hate AOL as do pritty much everybody you will speak to here. Great when it works. Absolutely usless when you upgrade, have a problem or try to cancel.

I may be getting my wires crossed here (get it.. wires crossed? ahh.. never mind!), but I didn't think DACS would have any part to play here. As far as I was aware, all DACS is a two phone lines running through one copper pair. Does make internet slow. Is there are requirement for two seperate lines here, as BT should be able to return you to a single line?

Lol wires crossed... Well Basically i rung BT wholesale asking if there was a blockage and got no help what so ever, apparently there is no blockage and SHOULD (i emphasise the word should) be no problem, They mentioned that a DACS is on the line then pretty much said deal with it

Im baffled to why the fact every ISP thinks ive got an order, When apparently AOL has been cancelled (even the automated service sais so) But also AOL said that it wouldnt be completely of till next friday. Its just a little bit disconcerting that next friday the ISP's will probably still think there's broadband on the line, and i cant think of anything to do that will help

Well BT are aparently under no legal obligation to remove DACS, as they are still providing the service you are currently paying for, but if you kick up enough fuss, they do tend to budge eventually! Don't worry too much, as long as you use ADSL instead of dialup, there shouldn't be any noticeable difference.

I believe they may be thinking that you have an order because you are still technically with AOL (even though it may be cancelled/inactive), until AOL clear you.

If I was in your shoes, I would wait until next Saturday. If they still haven't cleared you off by then, some selective words (not necessarily found in the dictionary) should be used when it comes to ringing AOL back, as it should never take this long.

Thanks mate, i'll wait until next saturday, and if AOL is still active on the line then i'll Ring them up and Tell them its really not on, What confuses me is the fact that BT cant find anything on the line, yet there obviously is something *sigh* Thanks hopefully have internet by march!
