Hello mongoose123,
Welcome to PCHF. There are different types of modem cable mon, just because the same cable works on one PC, doesn't mean it will work on another. Depending on which modem you have, you should use the cable that was supplied with it. The two main types of RJ11 are two line and four line modem cables, neither are compatible with each other. |

Hey, thanks for the reply. its a cable where one end has the normal phone connector that goes in the phone socket on the wall and at the other end is a rj11 and rj11 is the only socket in the back of the laptop so i really dont understand why its not connecting cause im pretty sure i have it all the wires connected properly i cant think of a solution?

Hey Guys,@Mongoose, my welcome to the Forum as well. Have you checked the dial out settings for your laptop? It sounds as if it is connecting to the phone, because you are hearing the operator telling you that your calling parameters are incorrect, something like, "blah blah blah, please hang up and try again. Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep ..." How exactly is your dial up set up right now? Screenshot if possible. Looking forward to your reply, TTFN LGW
