Default [Resolved] Progressive Downloading does not work!

New PC, XP Pro SP2, IE7, Windows Media Player 11. I cannot get any web video files to progressively download. They all must COMPLETELY download to a temp folder before I can begin playing them. My old PC (XP Pro SP1, IE6, Windows Meida Player 10) progressively downloads just fine. I compared all of the settings between the two PCs, but maybe I missed something. For the life of me I can't figure this one out! HELP!! Thanks in advance!! Rich

Hi Rich,

Welcome to PCHF, we have a wonderful team of techs here, and I am sure that we will be able to help you watch your videos.

First of all, did the PC come with everything listed already loaded? Or did you recently update anything? I know that some people are having problems with IE7, (suprise, surprise.) Also that WMP 11 was giving quite a few folks headaches.

Have you tried any other media players?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

May be a security "improvement"... should be reconfigurable though. Trouble is --IE7 is so new --little bug data is available yet.

Default Any IE7 or WMP 11 Users experiencing this anomaly?

Before I jump the gun (I HAVE gotten quite used to IE7 by now), I would like to know more definitively that one or both of these two programs is the culprit!! Besides, I have searched for IE 6 and all that I can find are service packs...plus IE 6 has all of those constant updates!!! In addition, the WMP 11 interface and menuing looks just about the same as WMP 10 (both of which do NOT directly address progressive dowloading under one of the setup tabs as did earlier versions). So if someone or someone you know cannot progressively download who currently uses either IE7 and/or WMP11, I would like to hear about it ASAP before I revert back to earlier programs!!

I believe that we are on the same page Rich, that's why I asked if you had updated, or if the machine came loaded that way. Also, why I would ask you to try a different media player to see if the problem is WMP 11, or IE7.

I only have a handful of situations with folks using IE7 so far, and we have had many unhappy users of WMP 11. So if you can help us, help you troubleshoot, you may help a lot of other users who may come accross this problem.

@IH8Bills, do you think you could find out if in fact there is such a security precaution in IE7? That could help Rich out a lot.

Looking forward to your reply Rich,

TTFN

Do you have links to D/L IE6 and WMP 10, as most of what I find are only the newest versions and I do not have time right now to spend scouring the web. You input would be most helpful!
