Default browser configuration

Hi;

Please help .
I have Compaq desktop and for 3 years now I have been using AT@T dsl Internet connection.
The connection stopped to work , " page can not be displayed " .
I spent countless hours with the people from tech support, and after all possible tests and second level support, I was told :

1. connection is fine
2. modem works well
3. problem is in browser settings, browser needs to be configured,
browser does not communicate with the server

They recommended to call Compaq tech support, and they said " over there they would know what to do"
I called, but because my desktop is over one year old, I do not have warranty any more. The fee is expensive, and I really mind to pay unless I am sure they can help me and I do not have any another options.

I am having doubts for two reasons .

1. I have a laptop as well, and the laptop was connected wireless to the same server and everything was fine. Now laptop shows "page can not be displayed", same like desktop, however wireless connection shows everything is O.K.
2. On both computers I use , depending of what I am doing , two browsers, IE or MF , switching between them .
Can someone please suggest what can I check or do by myself ?

best regards
eva

Hi Eva!

Have you tried the Wizard Network in Windows XP?
You can find it under Control Panel -> Network Connections.

If the internet was working, and now it's not...it's probably just your "DNS" hasn't been refreshed yet...this can take quite a while sometimes...not sure why.

To force it goto Start -> Run -> cmd -> 'ipconfig /flushdns'
