Default problem downloading via Browser

Hi, I'm having a problem downloading via my browser... i'm using IE (latest one) but have also tried firefox and get the same problem... if the file is over say 5mb it gets about halfway and the progress bar just stops... bittorrent and peer to peer programs seem to work fine... i'm using xp and have a dsl connection and can't figure out what's going on.. i don't have anything else running in the background... i've called my isp and they say there is no problem with the connection, it's like the download just times out or something.. can anyone help? thanks. cheers.

Hi Warden,

Welcome to the PCHF!

You'll most likely find that it's just from that particular website. If you goto any other website and download anything over 5mb, it should download fine. If so, find an alternate source for that file. If not, let us know.

thanks for the reply, but no it's not one particular website... i've tried various files from various websites... some i've downloaded fine without a hitch in the past... so it's not the url or site that's the problem.. it's got to be something else, it's got me stumped.

Hey Warden!
My welcome to PC Helpforum!

How're you connected to the internet? Through a modem / router?

Blue

Try cleaning all temp files, that sometimes workes with things like this:

Please download ATF-Cleaner

And then run ATF-Cleaner:

First check "Select All" , and then remove the tick infront of "History".
After that click Empty Selected.
When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

If you use Firefox or Opera as browser:

Click Firefox/Opera at the top, and Select Cookies and Cache from the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.

BTW, are you using a download manager of some sort?
