Unhappy 4 Browsers not connecting while 1 connects

I have what I think is a weird problem. Its a Toshiba laptop model P35 running Windows XP home. The problem is that neither Internet Explorer 7 sp2, nor Maxthon, Slimbrowser, Firefox or AIM connect to the internet. Now comes the weird part, the computer is connected to the internet since I see it downloading updates for Counter Spy and connecting to and downloading the info for the Google sidebar, the other weird thing is that AOL Internet explorer browser and Outlook connects and lets me navigate the surf and email. Why is it that I can't connect with the 4 browsers mentioned but otherwise the computer is connected to the internet and lets me surf through AOL Browser?. I have tried the cmd /flushdns, no luck. Thank you for your help
P.S.- I think the whole problem started when I installed IE 7 and now I see no way to uninstall it. Another thing, I have reinstalled Maxthon, IE7 and SlimBrowser, still not working.

Hi wisecuban, welcome to the PCHF!

when you say cmd /flushdns, do you mean ipconfig /flushdns?

Also, What anti-virus/firewall do you have running?

Sorry...my mistake, it was cmd ipconfig/flushdns. The firewall is Zone Alarm but I turned it off (first thing I did) as anti virus I use Counter Spy, and AVG, have left only AVG running, cancelled Counter Spy still nothing. Thanks for help

Do you also have Windows Firewall enabled?

The Windows firewall is disabled. I found the uninstall for IE7 was under Control panel/Add Remove/WINDOWS internet explorer I was looking under Internet explorer and under Microsoft Internet explorer, I did uninstall IE7 but still the other browsers do not work and AOL Explorer works...go figure
