Hello everone. I had an ICS connection between my xbox and pc for a few months. Then I got a new router and it stopped working. Every time I enable it I get an error that the ip is already in use. I have called the router company and they said they cant help. Can someone help me out?

Hi Bigerrons,

Welcome to PCHF. We have some extremely talented networking guys here, and I am sure that we will be able to get you back up and running.

First of all can you please give us the information on both the old router and the new router?

Have you tried manually changing the IP on your PC to allow the XBox to have the automatically assigned one?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

thank you, my old router was a linksys wireless. i think it was called a g35 v.2. not sure if the g35 is right. my new router is an action tec wireless router with the modem in it. i have 2 other computers at my house and have changed the ip on all of them. but still havent had any luck. As soon as i enable the ics check mark it says that i need to use the ip 192.168.0.1, but that is the ip that the router uses. so what do i need to do?

OK Bigerrons,

Thanks for the information, I'm going to PM the Networking gurus, and have them take a look at your situation. Please keep an eye out for their posts.

Hey there bigerrons,

Firstly could you explain how everything connected, for example are you connecting both computers and xbox straight into the router?

Next could you explain what IP addresses you have setup on the machines?

The ideal scenario would be as follows:
  • Router (obviously) - 192.168.0.1
  • PC 1 - 192.168.0.2
  • PC 2 - 192.168.0.3
  • Xbox - 192.168.0.4
Would you also be able to post the exact model number of your router for us.
