some of you may remember I was building a forum a few weeks back, which has so far gone really well, in the first two real weeks of being live ive gained 47 members and 800odd posts, which is growing each day.

but what im now asking is,

a friend of mine joined up in the past few days and is now telling me that i should really switch from smf to phpbb because apparently smf isnt very secure (occording to him there is alot of security exploits). I dont know whether to beleive him as he has been known to speak a bit of bs in the past, but he is also known for being a good web builder. He told my friend that he would set up phpbb for us and secure it, which rings alarm bells to me - personaly im thinking he just wants to have some level of control which now he hasnt got.

anyone know if there is any truth in what he is saying?

Personally I would post exactly the same post above in the Simple Machines Forum and see what response you get I was always lead to believe that SMF was about as secure as PHPBB but I would love to know if that's no longer true.
