Default [Resolved] - Trouble detecting ethernet controller...

Okay, let me give you all the full scoop on my problem. My computer got majorly messed up and wouldn't load the Windows XP OS, so I installed another Windows XP OS and simply transferred my data from the old XP to the new one. However, now that I'm trying to connect to the internet my computer is having issues detecting the ethernet controller. I'm running a broadband connection through the ISP Roadrunner, and I have the connections made through a wireless Linksys router. I have three computers, two of which connect to the internet fine, but the one mentioned above (the one I transferred data through two copies of XP), just doesn't load anything when I start Internet Explorer.

I've done some sleuthing around in my PC trying to locate the source of the problem, and I think I've found it. When I open the Device Drivers window (through the control panel), I noticed that the Ethernet Controller has a yellow exclamation point next to it, which means to me that there's an issue there. Also in the Device Drivers window, I found that there is no Network Adapters option on the list. Finally, when I open the Network Connections window, there is no LAN icon or anything. Now I found that I can add the Network Adapters option to the list, but it has me choosing a driver, this is where I'm stuck, I have no idea which one I'm missing or which one to choose. Hopefully I've provided enough information here. Thanks in advance to any and all help I receive, my internet life hangs in your hands ^_^.

Hi Josh,

Welcome to PCHF! We have a great team here, who will no doubt be able to assist you.

In device manager, if you right click on the controller (The one with the exclamation), you'll have to option to 'update driver'. Select the option for Microsoft update, and see if it will find a driver for you. Failing that, can you post what ethernet card you have and we'll find the relative driver for you.

Okay, so I tried to update the driver, but it says it wants to connect to the internet to find the appropriate software (oh the irony...). Anyways, I did manage to look through some documents from when I bought the computer, and I believe I have the name of my ethernet card, according to my invoice it's an Intel Pro 100M PCI NIC Card Hopefully that tells you something. Thanks for the quick response, I look forward to finally having this issue resolved.

With gratitude,

Hey Josh,

Just had a look around for your driver. (I have it here on disk too!) Anyway, try this link mate. It will automatically start downloading, and i'm 99.9% sure this is what you need.

Yup, that did the trick!
I really can't thank you enough, the web is running so much faster than it did before on this PC. You have saved my internet/myspace life, and this time I'm well protected with PC-Cillin's firewall and virus busting. You are simply the best, thanks a ton bro!
