Unhappy Uh-oh... What have I done?

Hey everyone.

I have a problem, which I probably caused myself, I just don't know how!!!

I was trying to connect 2 computers today so I tried a little of everything I could think of (I honestly did not know what I was doing) and it had to be done fast. I tried to transfer some files from one computer to the other, because one of them was going to be sold.

After a while where the 2 computers couldn't detect each other I gave up... I ended up taking out the harddrive from the computer being sold and put it into the one I kept. I have had them connected to a switchbox to have them both online at the same time. I did not use the switchbox for the file transfer...

The computer detects the internet cable, but my login page is gone! There is no connection! So the cable itself is intact. So I must have changed something in the internet setup while I was messing around with the filetransfer. I did click on some dial-up thing which I cancelled. Could that have been enough?

I really hope that someone can guide me through this. I use windows 2000 without any upgrades.

Take care everyone
*Louise

Welcome to PCHF Louise.

What connection do you use for the internet? Dial-up or broadband? Also, go into Control Panel > network connections > find your connection and double click on it > properties > TCP/IP (down the bottom of the list) > make sure that you have "Obtain automatically" for both IP address and DNS.
