Exclamation [Fixed] Internet Problem

Hi

I am having a bit of a problem with the internet on my laptop (Acer 290e series). I have XP Pro and after installing Service Pack 2 my internet has been cutting out after 10 mins of use. I was also recently infected with the Spyaxe malware thing, went through the process of removing it, done a number of virus and spyware scans, and apparently everything has been removed. (Using Ad aware, ewido and McAfee virus scanner)

I am using 2MB broadband with AOL 9.0, with the laptop connected directly to the modem. I use IE 6 instead of the AOL browser.

My HD was also getting full, so I've freed up a good 12GB, ran a scan and defragged.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Welcome to PCHF student1,

What type of connection do you have to your broadband modem? Is it wireless?

Hi there Student1.
You dont happen to be using Zonealarm are you?

Also have you let thee experts look at a hijack this log.. There may be certain aliens left on your pc.

Only reason I ask if you are using Zone Alarm is I had the same problem, and found out I had to install it and uninstall it again.

As for the HijackThis Log here is some good instructions to start with.

Hey

The laptop is connected directly tto the laptop using a USB port.

Not using ZA, but I have had that problem before when I used it (quite a way back now!) almost exactly the same problem. I did install a number of virus/malware scanners, but I suspected they may have been conflicting, so I uninstalled all but McAfee.

Thanks, I'll post that hijack report now!

Yes zonealarm often screws up my ADSL connection's DNS lookups.
