Default [Resolved] Internet Explorer

Hi all (If this is in the wrong place could someone tell me the best place to post it)

My problem is that I can surf anywhere on the internet except where it is a secure connection such as my hotmail or gmail account or even yahoo mail.

I pinged gmail.com and it works fine but on a secure connection nothing works.

I even downloaded firefox but that must have a secure connection as I couldn't get on to it.

I have checked all my Internet browser settings and everything is the same as my brothers computer which works fine.
I am completely stumped and can't survive without my email as it is needed for college.

any ideas anyone ??

Kev

welcome to PCHF kev.

Let's try first with the great list of suggestions here: http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/secure.htm - when you have tried all of that, if you get no joy, then come back and we will help you further.

Default Unable to get on to any secure sites, ie email, ebay, banking etc etc

Hi All

I tried all the things on the link from above but no luck.

When I try to log onto msn mesenger i just get the troubleshoot window and the default gateway as an exclamation mark against it and there is a message that says "Your gateway appears to be offline"

When I try to log onto my gmail account I get an error message saying

"Cannot log onto mail box(12029)
Unable to connect to server"

I read about an earlier post of doing a repair instalation of windows XP, not sure if I can do that as it came preloaded with the machine and no disk.

I also want to get rid of Norton security but looked for 'Norton Unerase Protection' so i could change it and then use the add/remove programme but it wasn't listed.

I am worried that I am going to have a long going problem exactly the same as a lot of people have had.

Would i be better off just saving what I can and formatting the whole lot??

Any ideas anyone??
Ps forgot to mention, i also turned off the windows and norton wirewalls but with no effect

Default Problem Sorted

I eventually gave up all hope and phoned up the help line at PC World

With their instructions I carried out a re install that saved all my files exapt the ones that I had installed via a cd.

Got to find all my old software cd's now but other than that everything working ok.

Binned Internet explorer and now using firefox
Thank god its all over!!
