Default [Resolved] Browser problems...

I'd really appreciate some help on the frustrating problem that has occured after installing Microsoft Visual Basic 6 on my Pc.. Vb works great itself but has left Internet explorer, firefox and netscape incorrectly functioning.. While trying to browse to a web page I get the error,

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

I get similar error messages using the other browsers.

I run 98se and am currently using a friends laptop but have my own pc set up beside me, any ideas guys..?

I have not had time to visit the forums as I am currently preparing for upcoming exams.

Thanks

Hi Ryan

From your desktop, click with the right mouse button on Network Neighborhood and select the Properties menu item. You should see the Configuration page of the Network control panel. If you have a modem or more than one network card, there may be more items listed. Find the entry for TCP/IP associated with your network card, select it, and click on the Properties button. If your IP address is set to "Obtain IP address automatically" then make sure that on the "DNS" tab it is set the same - "Obtain DNS automatically"

Thanks fpr the reply Hengis, however, in the dns configuration table, i have only 2 options, "enable" or "disable" dns. My IP address is set to "Obtain IP address automatically"

Give this a try , go to Control Panel/Network and Internet Connections/Network Connections and rightclick the adapter and select "repair" , if it comes up with an error then please post that here.

PS , youre friends laptop is using the same internet connection atm? So it definatly isn't an ISP or router/modem problem?

Have you tried uninstalling the program to see if that had an effect?
If you are using a router could you please tell us what brand and model it is?
Try connecting directly to internet (not from router).

Although I doubt its anything to do with the router.

Still experiencing the same problem. Uninstalled visual studio but sadly did not correct the problem. Can no longer acess the online game via the seperate client. Can still connect to the net and acess msn messenger. Now recieving dns errors when i try to browse to web pages. It's really starting to get out of hand, I need to be able to acess the new for work etc. I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out some more as i now know that it is dns that needs to be focused on..
