Default Connection Problem DSL works Cable Doesnt

I'm having an issue getting my PC to connect to the internet through my cable connection. Under my "Network Connection" it is showing data being transfered though. I know thow modem works, as well as my router (due to the fact thats what I'm running it through to use the internet at the moment). I have even attempted too use the USB port on my modem, which I have used before, but that doesnt work either. I have used cable service on my pc before, but went to DSL temporarly due to a move. Any and all help getting my cable service recognized would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Hey Guys,

Chris, have you tried doing a repair on the connection? What properties are showing under your Local Area Connection?

Have you rerun the IE Connection Wizard? Sometimes it is the silliest things that get overlooked.

Default Have tried those before

Thanks Ladygreenwitch, but I have tried both of your suggestions already, on more then one occasion (not trying to sound sarcastic so please dont take it that way, just letting you know that I did indeed attempt your idea). One of my friends said that "DSL flags might still be up" and that I need to change them. Yet I dont know how to change these settings. Windows helper is beyond vague. In addition I dont have a disk to install to make my computer recognize cable. In advance thanks for any and all help. Chris

Hey Chris.
  • Could you list what connections you currently have under "Network Connection"
In theory you have two "Local Area Connections", one for the DSL and one for the Cable modem, could you try disabling the DSL one by right clicking on it and choosing Disable.
Then try repair the connection for the cable modem.
  • Which service provider are you using for the cable?
  • We may need to get an installation disk to setup the connection

If that doesn't work then try the following:

Uninstall everything to do with your cable + DSL, and disconnecting your DSL completely from the system.
Then reboot your PC into safemode and go into Device manager, then scroll down to USB and delete everything in the USB list.
Also if there are any of your modems installed in the list you can delete them.
Check your Add/Remove programs to make sure that no drivers are currently installed for either your DSL or Cable modem.

Then reboot your PC with the cable modem connected.
