Default [Answered] IE 6.0 Not Responding

(1) Whenever I switch on my PC, after 10 mins my PC will auto restart. After it restarts, then this time it will function as normal....what went wrong?

(2) Often many IE pages will hang whenever it requires to open a new link. It will prompt "NOT RESPONDING" and then I gotta 'END TASK' the page.

(3) Is there a permanent solution where I can eliminate all these problems? It only appears recently and seems to becoming serious... Will buying Anti-Virus software helps or jus by downloading thru websites?

Sounds like it might be related to spyware, have you run any anti-spyware programs?

If not then you can run these :

Spybot - http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...RSS,RSS,00.asp
Microsoft AntiSpyware - http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...RSS,RSS,00.asp

Also you mentioned buying some anti-virus software. Instead of buying some why not download AVG Antivirus which is totally FREE and works like a dream.

Run all these programs, scan your drive and get back to us.

Hi..

I've got all the 3 softwares that you've suggested..scanned, and no virus or any spyware found. However the problems still remains. That is:

(1) I cannot click any "link" on any website. My IE 6 will hang for a very long time and it will not open up the link.

(2) My PC will auto shut off if I left it untouched for like...more than 10 mins. I've switch off the main power and switch it on again... :|

What exactly happened? A fren mentioned its e motherboard problem. By replacing it, problems should be permanently solved.

What is a motherboard, what does it do?

Hey, it sounds like u need to update your machine as well, goto www.windowsupdate.com and make sure you have as many as the updates as possible, it's up to you whether or not you choose to go to windows xp service pack 2, i take it windows xp is your operating system, you'll know this as when you turn your machin on it'll say it.? Go to that site and try updating everything, i would recommend to begin with you don't get service pack 2, just click on the "review other updates" if prompted for service pack 2.

I think that should sort out most of your problems.

Id like to know who said it could be your motherboard, thats the main and most crucial piece of equpment of your machine, it's the big circuit board that everything is plugged in to.? Although they do go wrong, it doesn't sound like it has in your case, usually if it has gone wrong your wouldn't even be able to go in to windows. What you have sounds like windows and Internet explorer needs patching, something this updating will fix. If you do have all the above software installed it still won't prevent you from getting a few bugs if your machine is not up to date so give it ago!

anyways, try updating and let us know how u get on
