Default McAfee installation and configuration

  1. Execute 'vs_30day_trial_10021_en-us.exe' (where 10021 indicates the version and en-us the language) for the downloaded version or setup.exe for the on-cd version
  2. The license agreement immediately pops-up. Read it carefully and when you agree press accept (click on the image to enlarge)
  3. The next dialog will appear, press next
  4. Check the 'create a virusscan desktop icon' box and choose next. Creating the icon will give you easy access to the program
  5. Now the program will be installed, this will take a few seconds to minutes, depending on the configuration of your computer
  6. After the installation you'll be asked to participate in the virus map project.
  7. The SecurityCenter wizard appears, as well as the McAfee system tray icon, press next and finish
  8. Now to update the program rightclick on the 'M' icon and choose update and check now. McAfee will now search for updates and will ask you to install them. When asked to choose update once again
  9. When you're using the trial version the Registration wizard will appear, press next and follow the instructions
  10. After registering perform step '9' again to update McAfee
  11. Now for configuring McAfee goto start->programs->mcafee->mcafee securitycenter
  12. Goto the virusscan tab and choose 'configure'
  13. All options are set as they should be, but by going to the 'scheduled scan' tyab you can schedule a full systems can, which is a good idea if many people are using the same system, or when a lot of files are downloaded on the system
  14. Before finalizing the configuration goto 'scan my computer', check all local drives and press scan. when a virus is found you'll be notified and told what to do
  15. That's it, enjoy your new scanner
