Default Bitdefender installation and configuration

Note: This tutorial applies to Bitdefender 9 but can also be applied to 'older' versions
  1. Execute 'bitdefender_std_v9.exe' for the downloaded version (where _std_ indicates the version) or setup.exe for the on-cd version
  2. Press next when confronted with the next screen, summarizing the content of the installation package (click on the image for an enlargement)
  3. Now another screen will show up, press next once again
  4. Accept the license agreement, after reading it carefully offcourse and press next
  5. Select typical installation and press next. when the screen below appears press next once again.
  6. Before pressing install, check all items except the 'open readme file'
  7. Now the installation will take off, this will take a few seconds to several minutes, depending on the configuration of your computer
  8. After installation, the screen below will appear, press yes
  9. After restarting, several screens appear. the one below will appear as long as you're running the trial, press continue to erm, continue
  10. In the lower right corner a red little ball will appear. This is Bitdefender. The transparant graph shows file activity on your computer.
  11. It's time to update Bitdefender. Rigchtlcik on the Bitdefender icon and select update
  12. An alternative way of updating is starting the Bitdefender interface by either clicking start->programs->bitdefender->bitdefender or by doubleclicking on the tray icon. Afterwards you can go to the update tab and choose update now
  13. Note: When you're behind a proxy goto 'settings'. Here you can configure your proxy settings so you can update
  14. Now it's time to some configuring. Start Bitdefender (see step 12) and goto the antivirus-tab. Ensure all items are checked. when pressing advanced (the first 'advanced' you get the smaller screen. Here you can exclude files/folders from scanning. All default settings are as safe as you should be
  15. When pressing the second 'advanced' you can see which registry modifications bitdefender blocked. Ie. malicious files will create registry values, bitdefender will stop this
  16. After configuring Bitdefender goto antivirus->scan. Select all your local drives and choose 'scan'. This will take some time but will ensure you haven't got an infection
  17. You're done, you've set up Bitdefender and configured the program
