Default Hijack This! Log

Recently, my PC has been veerrryy slow. In the lower right hand corner, every now and then, an alert will appear that says "Virtual Paging Memory Low" and that I need to increase my minimum virutal memory. I went to help and tried to look it up and fix it, but that is too complex for me!! I consider myself moderately computer saavy, but I was completely lost. Needless to say, whatever I tried to do did nothing. Weird pop-ups also appear, but they say they are from Internet Explorer and Windows. I just ignore them. Sometimes I got alerts that appeared legit that said something along the lines of the memory being too full and that some requests for memory from some programs may be rejected. I also got a popup when trying to open up iTunes that something was wrong with my my audio configuration, however upon checking my speakers, etc were all registered and recognized as working by my PC. Strange....

I downloaded CCleaner (before even finding this) and tried to clean up some temp files and what not, but my PC continued to run slow. I really got frustrated when trying to run programs and they sudden froze for no reason (ex: iTunes).

My parent's PC somehow got a virus, and they did this cleaner. Thinking I may have gotten a virus myself, I thought I would try it, considering they said it worked well for them.

I download music and have TONS of it on my PC which all goes to iTunes. I deleted songs I no longer want and I also went through and deleted all programs I no longer use in attempt to speed it up as well (obviously did not work).

I just completed this whole cleanup...I'm assuming it worked How often should this be performed (or use of any of the cleaner programs?).

I also have a laptop that is somewhat slow..should I also do this process on that as well? My laptop randomly shuts off, but I have a feeling it has something to do with the battery (the bottom left corner of the laptop gets extremely hot after about 30 minutes of use). Can you give me some advice with that?

Thanks!!

hi, liz, and welcome to the forums.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

thanks,

v

I performed the ComboFix and another Hijack This log...

My PC is still a little slow. Faster than it was, but not 100% normal. I'm still getting warnings and alerts about memory...is that a different problem???

You may want to print these out. please close all other applications, start hjt again, click 'perform system scan only', place a tick next to the following and click 'fix checked'

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbar...p=ZUxdm080LBUS
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/noc...rdsFWBInitialS etup1.0.0.15-3.cab
O16 - DPF: {321DCB55-ED81-920B-AA71-AAA02864C14F} - http://performanceoptimizer.com/file..._Installer.cab

right click start > explore > program files > delete anything that says mywebsearch. Then reboot and post a new log, and let me know how the system is running.

thanks,

v

well, I couldnt print out your thread my computer was acting that slowly. I just wrote it down...

I deleted those 4 items when I did the system scan for HJT..however I could not find anything with mywebsearch when I looked in the program files?

I rebooted and either im just getting more impatient or my computer actually seems worse. It is still slow and I am still getting pop ups about my memory. When it started up it took forever...and it just sounds bad, lol. It sounds like it wants to work and its trying but nothing is happening. After I gave it like 5 minutes to fully start up the sound went away and things got a little bit faster. I'm beginning to think its a hardware problem (I don't know anything about memory and how to fix it)...what do you think?

My brother is a computer programmer in Milwaukee and he will be coming home for Christmas so if none of this really works I can have him take a look at it....

if it sounds bad, chances are very high it could be a hardware issue. Were you able to get those hjt entries fixed? If you can't print them out, copy them to notepad, and you can leave notepad open while you fix them in hjt. You just cannot have any internet browsers open.

then could you post a new hjt log and new combo log please?

Thanks,

v
