also if this is a decent harddrive that i could consider buying if there is a way to transfer data from a "broken" harddrive to my new one that would save a lot of time but is not completly necesary
thanks a lot

well i decided to go take a look at my computers guts. i though maybe i would make sure everything is connected right and nice and tight and i pushed in the ide cable and power cable as far as they go rebooted and now it works but i am still thinking about buying a new harddrive then after that ill get a barebone kit and put a new one together with better gpu and motherboard for gaming etc so if you could still tell me about that hard drive or recomend another with a decent amount of storage thatd be great thanks again in advance

Hi
If your motherboard supports it, go for a SATA II HDD.

It will definitely have a 300MM/sec transfer rate (that whoever was selling the EIDE HDD, incorrectly claimed to have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA)

It's time to replace the hard drive mate, be careful of buying hardware from eBay as there is a lot of shonky stuff being sold there.

You will be better off buying a drive from your local computer store, as you will get better service...
