Default SAS & SATA drives in Dell PV600

I want to configure a new PowerVault600 with 2 SAS drives in a RAID1 and 6 SATA drives in a RAID5. Dell says go for it, shouldn't have issues.

I've found the following out on the web though and was wondering if anyone else has experienced this -

slower spinning SATA drives performance can be negatively affected when seated next to their blazing fast SAS counterparts. The cause of this is calculated and described by something called RVI (Rotational Vibration Index)

Hey DC,

You are opening up such interesting conversational threads.

My understanding was always that the CPU would work at the lowest level of either RAM or HDD. So hearing that there could be actual physical reaction to a different HDD is really interesting.

As you are staff, make sure to PM the other Techs and ask them to chime in on this thread. It will be interesting to see what everyone has to say. As well as our esteemed user community as well, of course.

Looking forward to all the responses,

TTFN
