The jumper settings will depend on which position on the IDE cable each drive is connected to.
If your drive is connected to the end of the cable then set the jumper to MS.
If it is connected to the plug half way up the cable set it to SL.
CS stands for Cable Select which is the safe option if you're not sure what you're doing as it allows the drive to detect where it is and set it accordingly.

They seem to complain with the top drive as master and the other as slave. Maybe I should put them both on cs. It's weird it's detects the master as a cd drive. And the Master DVD drive is detected but always says there is no disc in drive and it says it's a DVD-RAM instead of DVD-ROM like the other.

Have you tried the Cable select?
From what I can find on this subject-- this is normal for XP...
there is no native support in XP for DVD writers.
Does not mean it won't work-- with third-party software.
Just that XP does not name the drive correctly.

Where are your drives connected? If they are both at the END of the IDE cable then set them both as MS, Only set a jumper as SL if the drive is connected to the plug half way up the cable (that's the first plug from the Motherboard). If you're still getting problems then try setting hem both as CS, you've nothing to lose by trying!. I'm unsure about the "No Disc" issue you're getting, but someone else here may be able to help. As for the DVD drive reporting as a DVD-RAM drive it's quite possible that you have a DVD-RAM compatible drive as DVD-RAM is a disc recording format.
