Can anyone recommend a good Portable external hard drive other than Western Digital as I purchased a WD Passport external drive USB 2.0 (160 GB ) in Augiust 2007 and it has been so troublesome that I think I ought to replace it.

Keith have you thought maybe a seprate external case and seprate hard drive of your choice?

Or buy Seagate or Maxtor complete external hard drive.

You shouldn't judge all of the WD drives on that experience...although I can understand where you're coming from. I personally like WD and if I were to choose another HDD manufacturer, I would probably go for Seagate.

Initially WD passport portable was exactly what I needed - password protected and with synchronisation and good interface but the major problem is that the synchroisation feature broke down a while ago and despite following the instructions of WD support I have not been able to get it working again

I seen a few Seagate and Maxtor in Tesco they have 500 gig and upto 1tb externals.

Tesco online website may say money off but its not in all stores.It is false advertising as usal they are know for it.

I didnt notice any on sale in my local Tesco on Monday but I wasnt looking at external HDDs but check it out they may have money off.
