Default Corrupted Hard Drive

Recently, my computer quit working after what may have been my downloading of a virus. I could power on and get into BIOS, but as soon as I tried to get into Windows, Safe mode or not, the computer would shut down. After some research, I blame the Maxtor 6L200M0 SATA HD on my PC. I used software from the manufacturers to run diagnostic tests which it failed. What can I do next to fix it?

Your help is much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to PC Help Forum

Is it ok to lose the data on the drive?

Yes, I'd be fine with removing all data. I can hook the HD up to my other PC as a slave drive and remove all the needed data there. (I already saw it can work).
The hard drive also failed the manufacturer's diagnostic check when I set it up as a slave drive.
Should I purchase a new hard drive or send it in for repairs? Or somehow restore this one?

Thanks in advance

Hi,when a hard drive is failing or failed it is best to try and remove all wanted data and then take hard drive put in bin and buy a new one.

To retrive data from a failing/failed hard drive can be pritty expencive if you have to pay a company to do it.
