I was accessing the internet and flipping back to a Microsoft office document, when out of the blue my computer shut down. It now refuses to start. only gets up to the boot up process then stops.

I have put the windows CD in and tried to boot from there. It gets to the part about automated system repair. It starts this, and gets through most of it then stops and and gives this error message,"ftdisk.sys is corrupted"

I have tried to boot a boot disk in the floppy drive, exactly the same thing happens. I have tried a DOS boot floppy disk, exactly the same thing occurs.

I have been to bootdisk.com and downloaded, there boot disk, and tried again, same thing happens. I have tried the 6 disk set up boot set, still the same thing.

Nothing seems to work. I would really like to get my files off this drive before doing any nuke and pave, then reinstall procedures.

I have access to another computer to access the internet, so I can get files off the internet if need be.

Can anyone help me with this problem?
I just don't know what to do.

Yes you if take the hard drive out of the pc that won't boot and put into the other pc pc as a slave you will be able to retrieve your data off it.

You may need to take ownership of the files if you get an access denied message. See link below for how to do this.
