Smile new hard drive

I have a dell dimension 2100 pc. Right now I have 512 ram which is the maximum (looked it up on crucial.com). I have a 40gb hard drive. I was wanting to know if I could take the 40gb hard drive out and put in a bigger hard drive. I also want a dvd rw. Right now I have a cd rw drive. I want to find out also if I could get a better graphics card. I can't really afford to get a new pc so that is why I need to know if all this is possible. Thank you.
I would have looked it up in here but really didn't know how to word it.

Yes you can get a bigger hard drive and switch the cd rw for a dvd rw. Make sure you get an IDE dvd rw and hdd.

You can get a PCI (not PCI-E) graphics cards from newegg. See link below for a list of the cards newegg have.

Newegg.com - PCI, Desktop Graphics / Video Cards, Video Cards & Video Devices, Computer Hardware

Please post back if you would like anymore information.

I found some info about your computer at ... Dell Dimension 2100.

No offense, but your computer is rather low tech.

My big concern is the power supply. New faster hardware could require more power than your current configuration can supply.

One thing you might not know is piece meal upgrades can cost more than a new PC that already has the upgrades you want.

If you must piece meal upgrade, I would recommend external devices... an external HDD and an external DVD. In this manner, if the new device causes problems, you still have your original computer and you can return the new device.

I'm sorry but I don't know what piece meal upgrade is. When I bought this computer I didn't really know anything about computers like upgrading and etc. I just wanted one so I could get internet to talk to my sister in california. She taught me all about computers over the computer and phone. And are you saying I should get an hdd hard drive and a new power supply too..a little confused here. I don't really know anything about hardware and upgrading and etc.

Piecemeal mean one piece at a time.

What is most important to you, a hard drive or a DVD R+W?

With an external hard drive wouldn't I have to have another port or something? I only have 2 on the back and none on the front...i have my camera and printer hooked up right now. so you think it would be cheaper just to buy a new pc with the upgrades on it? Sorry so many questions. it's just that I'm running out of room. I have 6.5gb left. my sister bought her a hard drive, dvd rw and graphics card. I think it all came out to a little over 80 dollars..hers was internal hd. is my computer so old and low tech that it really can't handle an upgrade. I bought this computer (rent to own) at one of those places where you pay every week. I'm really not sure what to do. but if i get external i would have to have somewhere to hook it up. and as far as graphics cards go i don't know the first thing about buying one.

My first suggestion is for you to download and install this program (it's free) CCleaner ... Alternative Download.
1. After installing...run the program...click on Analyzer...then click on Run Cleaner.
2. On the left side of the window, click on Registry...click on Scan for issues...click on Fix selected issues.

This program will cleanup your temp files and cookies.

Secondly, those 2 ports, are they USB?
