Default Burned External Drive

Hi

A friend of mine accidentally plugged in his external drive into the wrong power supply. He told me it started smelling kinda bad as if something was burning so he took it off. Now windows won't see it anymore.
Any idea if the hard drive stands any chance of survival? Its a maxtor onetouch 4.

Thanks

Default Re: Burned External Drive

it might stand a chance if he had umpty hundred pound to send it off to a data recovery center lol. It may have just fried the Power Supply Unit (best case senario) crack the case and look for physical damage and see if it will install in the pc internally. This is at your own risk
