Okay so i've just been given an IMB Thinkpad X40, it takes an hour or more to log in, according to the previous owner the harddrive is broken and is only reading intermintently from the memory.
This means that the laptop is very, very slow; what I want to do (as a quick fix) is run a linux live cd from usb drive (no cd drive on the laptop) but I can't set it up as I am unable to open anything, sometimes i can open task manager and sometimes command prompt but I can't launch the taskbar and no folders.
Is there anything i can do to help the system run?
All i really need to do is run a program from my usb stick which will allow me to boot from usb but that's not relevant.
If anyone can help me I will be very grateful, anyone know of any preprepared OS's that can be booted from USB without having to be set up?
Thank you very much
