Default not picking up 2nd drive
Hi,

Everytime i boot up, my pc isn't picking up the secondary drive for some reason. I have to go to "hardware" and device manager and scan for changes.. then it finds it. Its becoming very very annoying ..anyone got any idea what might cause this?

Hello and welcome to PC Help Forum.+

If this is an external hard drive please try the following.

You could try updating all drivers for USB devices listed in device manager.
Right click on my computer,scroll to properties and open.
Click on hardware tab then open device manager.

Or download chipset for your make and model of PC/Laptop from manufacturers website under there support tab.

The chipset contains USB drivers among other updates for your machine.


If this is an internal slave drive,could you check it is connected properly.

Is it also and IDE or SATA slave drive?

Hi, sorry i forgot to include my hardware config... is ther somewhere i can post it so i dont have to enter it each time i come on here, as i cant find it...

anyway.. im running XP sp2 and the drives are 37GB Raptor and 300 GB sata II,

its the sata II that is giving me the probs... have checked cables

Ok look ata top of page and you see a tab "CP" you can add your computer specs there.

When you fitted slave did you set auto detect in BIOS?If no then set it to auto.
Auto detect SCSI drives to.

Did you set up RAID when you installed new slave drive?

Reinstall drivers for your hard drives.

i bought the pc custom made from pc specialist so the drives were pre-installed. Its worked fine this 8 months, only started a couple of weeks ago. occasionally it loads ok with all drives... but mostly it doesnt.
