Hi,

I am getting a similar message at my start up, I have two fixed harddrives and I have just added an external 500gb hard drive when ever I switch on the PC it loads so far then gives me the following message;
Sec Master: BAC51KJO Maxtor 33073U4
Ultra DMA MODE - 4 S.M.A.R.T. CAPABLE BUT DISABLED.

The only way I can progress past this point is to restart and hold down F8 or F9 until it reaches the next page then release and it will then continue through the start up process.
I have checked for any conflictions in the control panel and everything appears to be working properly.
All drives show and respond from the drop down lists and "my computer" . Is it possible it could be my external drive, I was wondering if I remove it whilst starting up and then plug it in once up and running. What do you guys think?

You also need to go into BIOS setup and enable S.M.A.R.T.

Microsoft Corporation

If the drive is a USB drive, it will not show up in the Bios, due to not a IDE interface. USB only enables after the boot process. The drive should have S.M.A.R.T. enabled on it by default in its firmware.
