Ok if there are no stored files on it as a new fitted slave then open my computer right click on that drive scroll down click format a warning will appear just continue.

Your running 32 bit xp home i would convert all drives to ntfs it is a bit better than 32 bit.How to Use Convert.exe to Convert a Partition to the NTFS File System

it doesnt show in my computer...just the C: and D: and those are two partitions on the MAXTOR

i have to go to disk management to see the WD
IT shows the MAXTOR as Drive 0 and the WD below it as DRIVE 1
so do i just do "new partition" in the unallocated space for the WD? in this case?

ok in computer managment righ click on the drive in list and click on format

when i right click on the drive there is not format option..just "new partition"
is that where i need to start first?

i figured it out...it appears that i just needed to assign a drive letter for to appear.
it was already active
