Hi all,

I have recently purchased a few peripherals for my laptop (second monitor, external HDD, cooling mat etc). I plugged all of them in, installed updated drivers, all worked fine.

The last few days however, if i have the external HDD plugged in, windows hangs at the splash screen permanently. It gets probably about 3/4 of the way through then all HDD activity stops. I unplugged everything else and plugged back in one at a time to make sure it was actually the HDD. The HDD is a 1TB lacie big disk. It works fine as long as i turn it on after windows boots.

Any ideas? Im thinking maybe drivers but im not sure.

Are you using the external power supply for the external HDD?Or just allowing laptop to power it?

No its powered externally, i dont know of any 1TB with power over USB.

Has the laptop always hung/lagged when plugging in the HDD?
