Smile [Resolved]Hard Drive Crash

Hi and thanks in advance for any help!

Last night the PC was working fine. I have (had) three hard drives in there.

I played a game for a bit, then watched a DVD and then shut down as normal.

This morning, the PC just hung after PCI Device detection.

When it finally asked whether to boot normal or safe mode, with either choice I got the blue screen of death.

I decide to try and minimize the issue by removing a hard drive. I did and the PC starts and runs fine.

My question....
What are my options for being able to get this drive to work? I need to pull info off it if possible. Not sure how I could be infected with a virus (it's a slave drive) but if I wanted to scan it...how?

Thanks!

Is the HDD dead as in broke?

Now I tried a faulty HDD in my computer making it external with connection leads. It would not run,but when connected to an older 32 bit machine the HDD could be opened as a slave.
However if its dead completely mm then no hope.

Thanks!!

I guess I'm not sure how to tell if it's actually totally broken or not.

I only have the one machine and it's the only thing (at this point) that was giving me trouble. I had planned on removing one piece of hardware at a time to get to the root of the issue but at first pull, this seems to be it.

I guess I can try to put it back in now that the system has run and see if it works?

So, I shut down, reinstalled the drive and it's working.

Should I still assume there's a problem and replace it?

Thanks for the help!!

Hi Arastar,
I would certainly back up the data on that drive just in case it is on it's way out. As it's a slave drive you can simply copy and paste to another drive. As you now have access to it i would run an Anti Virus Scan and also a Spyware scan.
Regards
Ian
