Oh gosh. I bought the cable. Connected the drive and voila still nothing. Nowhere to be seen, not in the RAID utillity not in windows...
Though after many boot ups it got stuck at the RAID utillity and wouldn't boot. Had to totaly disconnect the new drive to get it to boot again.
But now I connected it again and all is okay except it still can't be seen anywhere.

I tried disconnecting the old drive and putting the new in its place and it wouldn't boot cause no media were found.

I set the old one as Master now not that it makes any difference since it won't see the new one.

BUT once when I reopened my pc the new HD was pretty hot which means it was propably spinning...

The drive is hot,That means its getting power at least, have you read the seagate troubleshoot guid.I know you dont have seagate but its still sata drive. Are both drives the same size as in gig? Some say the drives must be same size or larger one as main?

No I have 120Gigs as Master and 500Gigs as Slave. But I'm pretty sure it won't make a difference if I turn them around cause thats how they were at the beginning and it didn't help.

Well the troubleshooting guide is divided in 3 parts: a) you don't have the cables connected right(which I have now) b) you configure the BIOS (which I can't cause there's no option in the BIOS for SATA or RAID or HD's in general) c) you have driver problems in Win (which I don't cause there's only one exclamation mark in a PnP BIOS extention)

Haha I was just reading on another forum of a guy updating his bios and it detecting the drive. But I haven't got the faintest idea how to update the BIOS and I've heard its pretty risky. Any good guide around?

Ok if you computer is a brand name, lets say dell or HP they have a support on there site and driver downloads. They also have online scanners. However if you find your mainboards manufacturer make n model etc then you can search from the manus website for the bios update.some Bios updates need to be put to floppy first some can be downloaded and straight install.a reboot is required.

RAID 0
RAID 0 provides data stripping – it takes data that needs to be stored and distributes it evenly between two or more hard drives. Because the system considers the two hard drives as one logical hard drive, the data is stored only once.

In a two-drive setup, for example, RAID 0 saves and accesses data quickly and efficiently. Rather than one bit at a time, RAID 0 stores and retrieves two bits of data simultaneously. Theoretically, the time it takes to save and access information is cut in half over a single drive system.

RAID 0 is popular for video and image production and editing, pre-press applications, and other applications requiring high bandwidth. However, RAID 0 does not provide fault tolerance – if one drive fails, the information on it is lost.

RAID 1
RAID 1 provides “disk mirroring,” which copies the same data onto two or more drives. Unless the system uses RAID 1 with duplexing, both drives must use the same adapter card.

Unlike RAID 0, RAID 1 allows for fault tolerance. Since the same data is saved twice, if one hard drive fails the second has a complete copy of all information saved. While not as fast as RAID 0, RAID 1 retrieves data more efficiently than a single drive setup because information is gathered in from more than one location.

RAID 1 is popular for accounting, payroll, financial, and other applications that require high availability and higher relative data security. However, RAID 1 writes data once in each drive, which makes saving data less efficient and halves drive capacity.

Source AMD drivers update.

Setting Up RAID
To use RAID, a system’s motherboard must have an onboard RAID controller or a PCI-connected RAID controller. Additionally, its hard drives must be compatible with the motherboard, and preferably all of the same brand, model, and size. Most RAID-controller-equipped motherboard manuals describe how to set up RAID, and many ship with user-friendly setup utilities.

Lovely! I flashed my BIOS with the Asus Update Utillity which supposedly does the job SAFELY from inside Windows. And now windows won't boot. I get to the place where I can select normal/safe mode. If I select normal mode it promptly reboots without showing anything. If I press safe mode it loads up to a374bus.sys and then reboots.
Pressing Esc to cancel loading those sys files makes no difference. It just reboots

Need help asap

Soooo. What we have learnt this week:

a) Never apply electricity on a drives' jumpers (destroys it, good thing it had a warranty)

b) Never flash your BIOS unless you are prepared for a format/windows repair afternoon

c) Never overestimate your computer knowledge

d) Never try to format a 500giga HDD when you have power outages, you will lose your whole day

Thats all Everything's fine again
