Default HDD Fails Format

I have a new retail Segate PATA/100 (ST3500641A-RK) 500 GB 16mb Cache internal HDD. I have tryed to format it with windows, segate software, and other software, and it always fails or says it had bad sectors. Am I doing something wrong? or is this HDD a junker out of the box. Ive never had to replace one before so im not sure how to check. Its pretty quiet, but just wont format with any software.

Hi Venix, from what your describing it very well could be a bad hard drive. I would replace it. Let us know how it goes.

Was the PC working ok before with it's original hard drive? If the drive has and IDE interface maybe your IDE controller on your mainboard is playing up.
