Post [Fixed] problem when changing hard drives

a friend of mine just gave me a pc, took out his old hard drive which was trashed, placed a new one in and it worked fine. there was some files left that i had to pull off the old drive, so switched those 2 around again got the files of, went to switch back and now i get a error, on either hard drive i try to use. the error is right at start up, after the info on the vid card appears:

Reboot and select proper boot device, or insert boot media in selected boot device.

I went into bios, and it is not detecting the hard drive at all.

any help would be nice, thanks in advance.

Hi welcome to PCHF So there is 2 hard dirves in the PC? Did you set the jumpers on the hard drive's as a master and slave? If you plug in 1 drive at a time will it see it in the bios?

no just 1, the old drive had alot of viruses, so dident want it in the system at same time with the new one, the jumper is set for master, bios doesent detect the drive at either time.

Can you hear the hardrive spin up when you turn the PC on? if the PC has 2 HDD port try it on the other one to see if it detects it. also check that none of the pins where bent when plugging the drive in.Sound like the hard drive may be buggered
