The hard drive in my laptop has started making a buzzing noise in the last few days and I'm starting to worry a little. It doesn't do it all the time though, just half the time and it fluctuates between quiet and loud. I'm hoping my hard drive isn't about to die. That would be kind of strange seeing as I just bought it like 8 months ago..
hey rory. what do you mean "buzzing"? you mean like hard drive chatter? or maybe vibration inside the laptop? It could be failing HDD bearings though. Can you tell me what make/model off harddrive you have? And please give me any more information you can.
I think thats hitachi... but i cant tell. do you know if its a Seagate, Western digital, or hitachi, how big is it, and what is the RPM? or if you actually have the model. Like, Mine is a Western Digital WD5000AAKS
Actually I've researched it a little and it seems that buzzing sounds are usually caused by the fan. I can't tell for sure though because the hard drive is directly on top of the fan. I'll get some compressed air and see if that does anything. If not, I'll have the fan replaced.
