Default Slave becomes Master?

WOW -- haven't visited y'all for awhile -- PCH has grown up! I've always thought your site was professional, easy to navigate, and appreciated your enlightening, considerate answers, so I'm sure the change is purely cosmetic!

Anyway, I have a 3GB Master C Drive that's almost full (only 4MB free), and a 15GB Slave E Drive that's basically empty. (sorry if I'm not saying it right). Problem is, there's not much in my C drive that I can move to the E drive to make a significant difference. (WINNT alone takes up 1.5GB!) And I don't have any music or videos or pictures taking up space. What's the solution? Can I make the Slave drive become the Master (and vice versa)?

BTW, I'm pretty sure it's not something I'm capable of doing, since it appears to involve moving major things like system files, and 'partitioning', and I recognize I could really screw things up! But the "wannabe geek" in me would kind of like to have an understanding of what needs to happen.

Thanks -- Congrats on the "upgrade"!

Welcome back

Is it one actual physical drive? Or two independent drives (I'm assuming it's not the latter as I don't recall any 3Gbs drives being made)

If it's just 2 partitions and 1 drive, you'd have to use a tool such as Partition Magic to delete the Slave partition and combine the two.

If it's 2 drives, then you can use software to copy over the 3Gbs HD onto the 15Gbs HD

Default Re: Slave becomes Master?

It was originally just a 3Gb hard drive and then I physically added another 15Gb drive, making it the slave. So it sounds like the last suggestion applies -- that I can get software to copy the 3Gb info to the 15 Gb?

But the 3Gb is my C drive and the 15Gb is recognized as E drive. If I move program files, etc to E, won't that mess things up? Or am I just totally not getting this?!

And what exactly is partitioning anyway?

Thanks!

Partitioning is when a drive is made to act as two.

You can use the following:
Miray Software - HDClone - hard disk copy - hard disk backup - hard disk rescue
Ranish Partition Manager download and review - partition manager from SnapFiles

You'll have to swap the HardDrives so that the 15Gbs one is recognized as Master also afterwards
