Hard Drives - [Answered] newbie fitting a SATA drive for the first time ! posted in the Hardware forums; SEE BELOW, FIXED this is the first time i have seen a sata drive, i have a data cable, i can see where that goes, i also have power cable ...

Default [Answered] newbie fitting a SATA drive for the first time !

SEE BELOW, FIXED this is the first time i have seen a sata drive, i have a data cable, i can see where that goes, i also have power cable (for two drives) i can see where that goes aswell, i can also see where the other end of this power cable will go. BUT ..... this where i dont know, on the SATA drive there is a 4 pin power socket identical to that found on a normal IDE drive, do i plug the power supply into this one as well ?.

i AM going crazy trying to find out . thanks

Hi timmy,

You only need to plug in one power cable into that drive. You can either use the SATA power cable, or the 4 pin power cable, it's up to you. If you already have a SATA power cable connected, then there is no need to have the 4 pin power cable connected as well.
