Hi
Hope I've posted this in the right place.
Firstly here's some specs:
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro
Chip - AMD Athlon 64 3200+
RAM - Corsair 512 Mb
HDD - Western Digital WD25 00JD-32HBB0 SCSI 256Gb
Currently running XP pro SP2 (32 bit), fully updated.
I am having some big problems with this PC. I built it 3 years ago with a more experienced friend. soon after our last fist fight, I got virused and had to reinstall with what I had kicking around. he'd taken my x64 disc so i just installed xp 32 over the top. Ive been running 32 for a couple of years with the odd problem, but nothing I couldn't fix myself.
recently, i've been getting 10-20
BSOD's a day, firefox won't stop crashing, dreamweaver locks up. this PC is my living (I'm a web designer) so i need it fixing.
I shelled out for an OEM copy of XP Pro x64 (turned out to be SP1) and 2Gb of new memory. i chose Corsair CMX1024, xms3200 as it's the same as what's already running, only BIGGER!
anyway, i thought it'd be a nice simple format my C: drive (partition), reinstall with x64, possibly need to add my SATA Raid drivers, but NO! The windows installer won't recognise my hard drive.
Windows and all programs run on the C: partition and all my files, photos music and 3 years of very hard work are on the E: partition. I absolutely MUST NOT wreck the E: partition.
I have lost the original RAID floppy disc i got (with either the Motherboard or HDD, not sure) and the only info I have regarding my SATA RAID controller is what's in device manager:
ITE IT8211 ATA/ATAPI Controller
Silicon Image SiI 3512 SATARaid Controller
I have tried many things over the last week. I have downloaded every RAID driver I could find that appears to be connected with the above. I've tried installing these using Floppy during the windows installer, and Ive tried slipstreaming them into x64 with nLite.
Nothing works and I'm at the end of my tether!!

I found myself thinking about taking it to PC world, but then sense got the better of me and I found a good forum to beg for help on
please, please help!
thanks in advance
*edit*
Forgot to mention where the
RAM comes into all this.
Like a moron, i thought "if I install the
RAM, then the windows install will be faster!"
How very wrong I was. I ended up with
BSOD's on top of
BSOD's. sometimes wouldn't even boot fully in safe mode. I'm guessing I'll have to play with the latency alittle once x64 is running, but that's another question.
