Default changing jumper

Hi!

I recently bought a Maxtor DiamondMax 21 160GB HDD and today I placed it inside my PC. The problem is that it has to go on the same IDEcable with the old HDD wich has Windows on it and all the other programs. I want to change the jumper on the new DiamondMax 21 HDD but I can't take the jumper out. It is like the top of the jumper where you can 'grab' it is broken off because the jumper is smaller/shorter than all the other jumpers I know. So, I can't change the jumper on the old HDD because it has windows on it and so it has to remaine master.
Now I have two masters on the IDEcable because I can't change the jumper on the new HDD. The jumper is just to small to get grip on it. Is this weird for this HDD?

Wink Re: changing jumper

When I mess with small things like jumpers, I use a little tiny flathead screwdriver. (Mind you, I have very tiny hands for a male & sometimes it is near impossible for my tiny hands to reach certain things like jumpers.) You can get a set of screwdrivers that are tiny & made for small electronics almost anywhere you can buy repair/electronics/computers/ even A/C. The smallest of those flathead screwdrivers can most likely get that tiny smaller than average jumper out. Just make sure you A: know where the jumper has to go to make it the master on the new one & B: make sure you change the jumper on the original drive to slave. C: {obviously} don't forget to make sure all power is off before proceeding!

Talking Re: changing jumper

Also, you must reinstall windows on the new master drive. You could copy it over if you go into a Miniboot CD OS such as BARTPE. {It puts a mini version of the OS onto a cd that is bootable allowing you to copy the windows directory & registry etc.}

As I do I would just take the jumper off completely.. It then becomes Cable select..

As for resinatalling windows you do not have to do that.. Just copy and paste its that easy.

Thanks for the replays!
I prefer to do not reinstall windows because I'll need to change a lot of settings again...

Well, I messed around with both the jumpers some time (I managed to get hold on the jumper on the new HDD) but I could get this as I wanted.
Anyway, I'll reinstall Windows on the new HDD.

Thanks for taking the time!

Robin
