Default [Fixed] hd not in 'my computer'

Hi!

I've just connected a new HD in my computer and when i booted my computer it also said that the new hardware was found. The HD shows up in Device Manager and my BIOS, as it should be, but it won't appear in 'my computer', next to the other 2 HD.
First I had this connect in my PC:

Primary master: Maxtor 80GB (HD)
Primary slave: IBM 20GB (HD)
Secundary master: NEC 3250 (cd/dvd drive)
Secundary slve: NEC 2500a (cd/dvd drive)

When i connected the new HD it became:

Primary master: IBM 20GB (HD)
Primary slave: Maxtor 80GB (HD)
Secundary master: Maxtor 250GB (HD)
Secundary slve: NEC 3250 (cd/dvd drive)

Why won't the new HD (Maxtor 250GB) appear in 'my computer'? The HD is still empty because i can't put anything on it as long as it doesn't show up...
Could it be a BIOSsetting? When I check the settings for the HD I can choose between some options (I think the're for connection) like LBA, AUTO and more....
by the way: is there anything different between a primary and secundary master OR a primary and secundary slave?
Thanks!

Robin

Your hard drive is probably not formated To check this follow my insructions :
1. right click on 'my computer'
2. select 'manage'
On the left side of the page is a column named Computer managment (local)
3. Expand 'storage' and click on disk managment
4. The new hard drive should appear in the list to the right.
Now im not sure weather you can format into NTFS without third party app but if there is only FAT file system dont format from there because there are file size limations.
I think that as long as it is not your primary boot drive you 'll be able to format it just fine by right clicking on the drive > format > select ntfs give a name to the volume
am not sure whether you should use quick format but if you dont it will take ages on slow hardware and large harddrives

Isn't it that FAT can't handle more than 127GB?

What kind of third party app would you recommend?
