Default Disk I/O error

Hi, ive just tried to install an operating system on an old hard drive of mine, but before it gets to the set up i get a message saying disk I/O error 000020000, failed to read something. I have no idea what this means, is there something i can do to fix this of should i get rid of the hard drive?

Make sure that the cable that connects the hard drive to the motherboard is connected to both the motherboard and hard drive. Also make sure that the hard drives power supply is in.

It could be either a failing motherboard or failing hard drive. I am not sure which, I'm sure someone else will know how to diagnose this better than me.

Good luck,
Adam

Sorry, I have just been looking through all my old posts and I realise that I have a few unfinished threads. You can mark this as closed as it has either been fixed or it fixed itself or it went away when I build a new pc
