Default Multiple Hard Drives

There is only one hard drive in my computer, but in My Computer it shows having two hard drive, C and D. Drive D has far more space on it than C. I want to combine the two hard drives so theres just one showing up in My Computer. Its So confusing.

Hello Wiseguy! Welcome to PCHF

It sounds to me like you have two partitions on one hard drive. If you are not very computer saavy, your best bet would be to move as much data out of the C: drive as you can. If your Windows folder is on the C: drive, which I'm suspecting it is, that should be pretty much all that's in there. All your programs and files should be saved to the D: drive.

Now if you want to try to merge the partitions, you will need to use a program like Partition Magic. Before you attempt any major changes, I would definitely advise you to back up all your important data to CDs/DVDs first.

If you don't care about wiping your hard drive, an easy way to do it is just to start a Windows installation, then delete all the partitions during the Windows install, then create a new partition using all of the available space on the drive.

You have lots of possibilities, but you will need to choose the one that suits you. No matter what, just back up all your data, then worst case scenario is you just start over but your data is ok.

Hope that helps!
