Default [Resolved] Backup question

Currently running xp on 6gb partion from a 30gb hd. Needless to say my OS is running out of space on the 6gb( 150mb left to be exact), wanted to know the best way to save my current OS setup and move it to a bigger hd so my c drive will get more space and so that i don't have to re-install every last program if possible. Hope this made sense if not let me know.

How full is the 30 gig partition? If there is lots of room on it, you can use a program like partition magic to resize the partitions. If the hard drive is healthy with no bad sectors, it should be able to resize the partitions without loss of any data. You would still want to back up all your important data before doing something like that.

If you for sure want to clone your hard drive and move it to a new, bigger hard drive, you can use a program like acronis true image. That's a great, simple, imaging/cloning program. You can resize the partitions at the same time you clone the hard drive so while you copy all your data over, you can make the 6 gig partition bigger on the new hard drive.

Hi goldpup,

if you goto Start -> Run -> diskmgmt.msc

You should see it in here, and be able to assign it a drive letter.
