Default recombining multiple partitions

Hi All,

I have a drive that has multiple partitions, and I was wondering how I go about recombining these partitons and reformat to one drive.

I thought it was a good idea to make 7 partitions....

Will the Windows installer allow me to recombine all the partitions

thanks

Assuming you're using Windows XP this is pretty easily solved. First move any data to the first partition. Of course always backup all data incase of problems. Next right click on my computer and click on manage. Down under storage click on disk management. Right click on any partition you wish to delete and click on delete partition. It should be that easy. Make sure you don't delete any primary partition/active partition as that would be your boot drive. This shouldn't be a problem as WinXP usually doesn't let you delete a partiion you're using. Try it slowly. ie one partition at a time until you feel more comfortable with what you're doing.

Question Re: recombining multiple partitions

I had a similiar problem with an XP Pro SP2 laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200). When I received the laptop, I needed to do a fresh install of Windows to clean the whole system out. When I did the install, I discovered the drive had 2 unpartitioned, unallocated portions of the hard drive. The 3rd portion on the disk was partitioned as a primary drive and this is where Windows was installed.

What I don't understand is why those two other portitions of disk space exist as separate chunks of un-used disk space? Why isn't the entire disk used for the primary partition?

I couldn't see any way to add these 2 portions to the 3rd thereby increasing the size of the primary partition. Not sure why.

Thanks in advance for any comments..........................matt
