Also I did do a IE udgrade and I get a message telling me setup closed becasue another program requires that I restart, so restart and then the same thing happens.

And if I cant update windows or IE how am I going to get rid of it without a clean reinstall, or is there away.

Ok if the Windows 98 CD boots in the dell then the BIOS must be set to boot from CD.

Try the XP CD one more time and restart the computer. Upon power up keep hitting the spacebar until you either get your error again or some magic happens...the XP Boot CD has a rather small window of opportunity to actually boot from it, i think you have around 4 seconds before it skips the CD and tries to boot from the hard drive.

I really just want to eliminate some possibilities here.

No the 98 booted in the Dell without a CD. And I set the BIOS in both to boot CDROM first. But the XP HDD wont do anything but the blue death screen in the Dell. I am trying to repair windows in the IBM but its not working so far. i even downloaded one of those dll fix programs and it never detected this specific one. And Microsoft website suggested I reinstall IE but that did not work either. So knwo what.

Ok well my hubby got mad yesterday and did a clean install, i had tried everything. It works fine now, but still wont work in its original PC oh well, so i put the CD/DVD writer in teh IBM and the wireless card, and as long as he can deal with the pentium 3 I dont care anymore.

But thanks for trying, i am still wondering what is wrong with the Dell other then it being a Piece. But it works with the 98 so we can use it for my kids.
