Hey Nessa818,

Clicking noises coming from the HDD is normally a sign of mechanical failure.

You can test the drive for errors by going to My Computer, Right click on "Local Disk (c)", and go to Properties. Click on the Tools tab. and under "Error Checking" click Check Now. Tick both check box's and click on Check Now.

You will need to reboot, and the scan can take a few hours. Otherwise, can you describe the problems your having?

unfortunately that is not an option for me
checkdisk will not complete I tried and got dumped to blue warning screen with this message:
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
disable or reove any newly installed hardware or software. disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If needed use safe mode to remove or disable components.
Technical Information STOP: 0x0000007A (0xE1909BF0,0xC0000098,0xBF916327,0x0B278860)
win32K.sys Address BF916327 base at BF800000,DateStamp 41107f7a
The noises coming from HD are occasionally grinding noises not clicking.
Are there not any online tests or downloadable tests?

You had a blue screen of death, take a look at BSOD's on my signature, and post a log here so that I can take a look.

Also, do you have a Windows XP Setup CD? There is another version of chkdsk you can use from there. Insert the CD at bootup, and it will start loading the setup files. When prompted press R to enter the recovery console. At the recovery console, use the command chkdsk /r

If not, I'll see if I can find you something else.

Yes I do have the Windows XP setup CD
As for the dump log I just checked it and there are no 1001 events, I also checked if everything was enabled and it all was.

If your hard drive is failing, go here and download SeaTools from Seagate. This will tell you if your drive has had it.

You will be better off backing up your important files instead of wasting time checking BSOD's...
