Your describing some serious problems here caustic, and the chances of restoring any data by yourself is extreemely unlikely. First of all you hear the clunking sound. This alone is normally a sign of total drive failure. Your inability to set your drive to master, and the fact the drive appears in Device Manager but not in Disk Management, all point to physical problems, either with the drive head or with the platter of the HDD, or both.

If the data is that important, I can find you some companes that specialise in data retrival, but they do tend to charge quite a bit of money.

Treat this as a learning experience caustic. If you have important data, then back it up.

i thought as much that it might be screwed.
ive just done a restart and the bios finally found it as the slave, it spun up a couple of times, made a ticking sound, then slowed down. it doesnt seem to be spinning at the moment (cant hear it, doesnt feel like it when i hold it)
and i cant find in device manager.
=[

I would say he still owes you for that one!

You can always put the HDD in another PC if you still have any doubt caustic. If there is anything more you would like me to do on my side, look for a recovery specialist company, or anything, please let me know.

yeah he should owe me! i traded a a most of my old pc for it!

i have been thinking of trying to put it into another case, but that would prove pretty pointless as i couldnt get the data off it that way.

i guess if you can look for a recovery specilist .. even just so i can see if its worth the cost.
im located in australia (if you didnt know)
